Gresen, Eugene

Eugene Gresen, age 89 of New London, died at St. Joseph Residence in New London, on Sunday morning, March 9, 2014.

Eugene was born on April 23, 1924, in Manawa, Wisconsin, the son of George and Arella (Randt) Gresen. Eugene grew up in Manawa and graduated with the Class of 1941 from Little Wolf High School. He joined the U.S. Army in 1943 and served until his honorable discharge. On August 20, 1952, he married Joyce Fielding in New London. She preceded him in death on February 21, 2013. In his early working years, Eugene was a milk hauler and then employed at Glass FAB. He retired from the Simons Furniture Co. of New London. Throughout their life together, Eugene and Joyce enjoyed camping in Cecil, Wisconsin. Eugene was an active member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, New London as well as the local VFW, Amvets, and American Legion Post.

Eugene is survived by his sister, Elaine Ferg; sister and brother-in-law, Deloris and Paul Jasman; as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joyce; and sister, Norma Gresen.

A funeral service for Eugene will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at Emanuel Lutheran Church, New London, with Rev. William Heiges officiating. Family and friends may call at Cline & Hanson Funeral Home, New London, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday and again directly at church Wednesday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in Most Precious Blood Catholic Cemetery. The family would like to thank nieces, Diane and Darlene, for their tender care given to Eugene, as well as the staff at both St. Joseph Residence and Heartland Hospice.
