Breier, Jean

Jean Breier, Waupaca, WI, was born in Appleton on January 19, 1927. She passed into eternal life on March 29, 2014 at the age of 87.

She was born with a twin sister, the sixth of seven children born to Frank and Alice (nee Grant) Larkee. Jean graduated from Waupaca High School in 1945. On December 20th of 1945 she married Leslie Behm. Jean attended Beautician School and began working in Oshkosh. She eventually established a business in Waupaca, operating her own shop in her home on Franklin Street for 25 years. In 1958 she married Lester Breier. Following the illness of her husband, Lester in 1981, Jean was appointed to fill his term as Register of Deeds for Waupaca County, and then was re-elected to that office until her retirement in 1991. Her mother, Alice Larkee, had held the Office of Register of Deeds for 22 years prior to Lester’s election to that office. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and had been a choir member there and served as chairwoman of both women’s groups at church. Jean was a very active and proud member of the Waupaca County Republican Party, serving as Vice Chairman and Eighth District Secretary and as Chairwoman, Secretary, and Treasurer of the Republican Women. She served as Chairwoman of the Waupaca Women’s Club, volunteered for the Red Cross and the Food Pantry for several years, and belonged to the Central County Airport Association.

She is survived by her son Mark (Teresa) Behm; grandchildren: Collin (Becky) Behm, Tyler Behm, Oliver (Amy) Behm, and Krysta Behm; great grandchildren: Paxton, Paris, Elise and Maddox Behm; one sister-in-law, Lillian Larkee; her care giver and niece, Lynn (Rollie) Myers and special friend, Linda Cross; ten nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lester and his son LeRoy, sisters Violet (Vern) Brewster; Fern (Oscar) Beckman; Georgia (Allard) Mortenson; and twin sister, Joan (Melvin) Buchholz; brothers Ronald (Lillian), and Grant; and four nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church in Waupaca on Saturday, April 12, 2014. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with a service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Lakeside Memorial Park Cemetery, Waupaca, WI. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca, WI is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church, 1120 Evans Street, Waupaca WI 54981 or to the local Red Cross.
