The ambulance director position has been discontinued, according to a recent press release issued by the Manawa Rural Fire/Ambulance Board.
The board met on Monday, March 31, to go into closed session to discuss scheduling and payroll issues being faced by the Manawa Ambulance Department.
After the closed session, the board issued the following statement: “Ambulance Director Cathi Wegener was relieved of her director duties, effective April 1, 2014. The position … was eliminated in order to stay within the budget.”
The statement continued:
“The board appreciates the dedication and time all of the members of the service have given. The board also wants to assure the residents and the service members of the board’s commitment to retain this valuable service, and to continue to improve the level of service it provides to the community.
“The budget issues that the present board inherited have made some difficult decisions unavoidable, but the board remains committed to keeping this service in the community.”
