Global Finals next stop for Friendly Five

Waupaca Learning Center’s Destination Imagination team, the Friendly Five, are headed to the Global Finals.

Brooke Peterson, Katie Jenson, Maci Tripp, Grace Harris and Chloe Eller earned first-place overall at the elementary level at the Wisconsin DI Affiliate Tournament at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Saturday April 12. They also earned a first for their instant challenge.

Destination Imagination (DI) is an international, educational program that encourages innovation, teamwork and creative problem solving.

Each year, DI releases new challenges geared to specific disciplines, such as technology, science, fine arts, improv theater, structural design or service learning.

The Friendly Five identified a need at WLC, designed and implemented a project to meet that need, developed a video to promote the project, and created a live presentation.

More than 250 regional championship teams from across Wisconsin participated in the Affiliate Tournament.

Destination Imagination teams that advance past regional and affiliate tournaments are invited to participate in Global Finals.

More than 1,300 teams from 45 states, seven Canadian provinces and 13 countries will present their Challenge solutions on May 21-24 at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.
