New tickets designed for rodeo

A new style of admission ticket will be used at the Manawa Lions Mid-Western Rodeo this year.

The new tickets are smaller and easier to tear and uniquely personalized using Manawa rodeo photos. They are designed to help ticket takers get rodeo fans through the gates faster.

The overall winning entry of the rodeo coloring contest is featured on the children’s ticket.

This year’s coloring contest winner was Carly Wandtke, the daughter of Tim and Jenny Wandtke, of Scandinavia. Her colorful picture used a variety of artistic techniques and was chosen from 19 entries.

Carly is a fourth grader at Iola-Scandinavia Elementary School where math is her favorite subject. She has been attending the rodeo since she was 6 months old and hasn’t missed one yet.

She can’t wait for this year’s show to watch barrel racing – her favorite event.

When asked who her role models were, Wandtke replied, “Sherry Cervi (professional barrel racer) because she’s an awesome barrel racer.”

Her other role model is 2014 Mid-Western Rodeo Princess Bailey Wilfuer, “because she designs her own horse tack and wears the color pink,” which is Carly’s favorite color.

“She also competes at the Rodeo City Riders Fun Shows on a horse that is really cool,” said Wandtke.

Age group winners of the 2013 Mid-Western Rodeo Coloring Contest were: Five years and younger – Isaac Snyder, of Manawa, age 5; 6-8 years old – McKenzie Miller, of Tigerton, age 8; 9-11 years old – Carly Wandtke, of Scandinavia, age 9.

All three children received a rodeo t-shirt and a family pack of tickets to the 2014 Mid-Western Rodeo to be held July 3-5.

The contest entry picture and rules can be found in the rodeo program and will be posted on the rodeo website at www.manawarodeo.org.

The deadline for the next coloring contest is Sept. 1.
