Mildred N. Carew, age 87, of Manawa, died on May 2, 2014, at St. Joseph Residence in New London.
She was born on August 5, 1926, Town of Deer Creek, Outagamie County, daughter of the late Henry and Sarah (McClone) Hazen. She graduated from Clintonville High school in 1943 and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manawa. On August 25, 1947, Mildred married Walter Wandtke at Sacred Heart Church in Manawa. Walter passed away on October 30, 1970. On February 6, 1988, she married Gordon Carew. Mildred loved to play bridge, poker, and visit the casinos.
She is survived by her husband Gordon, son Denis Wandtke; grandsons: Tim Wandtke, Ted Wandtke, Alex Lee, Nick Lee, Drew Fietzer and five great-grandchildren. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter Margaret “Peggy” Lee, a brother Howard Hazen and a sister Marie Kaphingst.
The Funeral Mass for Millie will be held on Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manawa with Fr. Amal Roche officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. A visitation for Millie will be held directly at the church, starting at 9 a.m. on May 7th, until the time of the mass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sacred Heart Parish or the Lion’s Pride Endowment Fund. Cline-Hanson-Dahlke Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
