Indians knock off Amherst

Weyauwega-Fremont handed Amherst a 9-6 defeat May 1 in a matchup of Central Wisconsin 8 softball teams.

The Indians took a 8-0 lead with three runs in the top of the first, two in the fourth, one in the fifth and two in the sixth, but Amherst cut into the lead with four runs in the sixth. W-F added a run in the seventh, but the Falcons countered with two in their half of the seventh.

Miranda Potratz had three hits and drove in two runs for the Indians, while Kori Looker, Liz Hillskotter, Jordan Rucks and Rachel Knorr had two hits. Carly Sowiak, Sam Yenter, Rachael Toelle and Kayley McDowell each had two hits for Amherst.

The Falcons also left 12 runners on base, left the bases loaded in the final two innings and committed six errors.

Karissa Akey got the win on the mound and Mikayla Dombrowski took the loss.
