Two fires under investigation in New London

Police are investigating two separate fires that occurred in New London during the early morning hours of Tuesday, May 20.

A fire broke out in an apartment above the Copper Shot Bar, 318 W. North Water St., resulting in smoke and water damage throughout the building.
Police and firefighters were at the scene shortly after 3 a.m. Tuesday.

Two people were injured when they jumped from a second-story window and into a dumpster behind the building.

One of the victims underwent surgery for his injuries on Tuesday afternoon.

Fire marshals are investigating the fire and a K-9 unit was on scene to help detect the use of accelerants.

Shortly before 4 a.m. Tuesday, New London police and firefighters were called out to New London High School.

An outdoor wooden playground set used for the early child development program was set ablaze and destroyed. A window in an exterior door to the library was also broken.

Police used K-9’s to search and secure the building in the early morning hours.

The fires remain under investigation.
