Arthur “Art” H. Hill, age 91, of Waupaca, passed away peacefully Saturday, May 25, 2014 at Riverside Medical Center.
He was born on July 7, 1922 in Marquette, MI to the late Gust and Albertine (Korby) Hill. Art was a U.S. Navy veteran who proudly served during the Invasion of Normandy and Pacific Theaters. He was active with VFW Post 1037 and a committed volunteer of the Wisconsin Veterans Home. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth “Betty” Mathews on January 25, 1947; they shared 67 wonderful years together. They lived in Milwaukee for 34 years before retiring to the Waupaca area.
Art will be dearly missed by his wife, Betty of Waupaca; children: Greg (Peggy) Hill of Ypsilanti, MI; Jim Hill of Gilbertsville, KY; Mary (Erv) Bluemner of Hartland, WI; David Hill of Pewaukee, WI; and Jack (JoAnne) Hill of Elm Grove, WI; seven grandchildren: Adam (Jenny) Bluemner, Erik (Molly) Bluemner, Jill (Pete) Masana, Lauren, Justin, Kevin and Ellen Hill; five great-granddaughters; and a sister, Helga McDonell of Marquette, MI; other family and friends.
The funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church; Fr. Amalraj Roche will officiate. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass. Military honors will follow the service and burial will take place in the Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the VFW Post 1037 or the National MS Society. The Maple Crest Funeral Home of Waupaca assisted the family with arrangements.
