Bulldogs sweep Thunder girls

The New London softball team wrapped up the regular season with a pair of Bay Conference wins May 19-20 over the Seymour Thunder.

The teams were scheduled to play two games May 19, but rain forced officials to stop the game and resume it the next day, followed by the second game of the doubleheader.

New London 20, Seymour 6 (5 inn.)
The runs poured in as the rain poured down and New London led 19-6 when the game was called due to rain. Play resumed the next day and New London came away with a 20-6 win.

Alanna Beyer had three hits to lead the offense, while Leah Porath and Beth Starcheske had two hits. Payton Mix, Molly O’Connell, Morgan Gorges, Tanna Spencer and Jenna Mytton also had hits for New London.

Shelby Sommer pitched two innings, allowing four runs on five hits with two walks. O’Connell pitched three innings, allowing two runs on three hits with one strikeout.

New London led 10-5 after three innings and added three insurance runs in the top of the fourth to put the game away.

Sommer pitched two innings, allowing five runs on five hits with three walks. O’Connell pitched five innings, allowing five hits while striking out three.

O’Connell led the offense with four hits. Mix, Mickey Roland and Lexi Roland added three hits. Beyer had two hits, while Porath, McCoy Mix and Callie Timm added one hit.
