Newbury, Edna A.

Edna A. Newbury, age 97 years, of Appleton, more recently of West Bend, WI, passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care, Waukesha.

The former Edna Alice Dilge was born January 3, 1917 in Tigerton to Henry and Amalie (Diem) Dilge. After graduating from Tigerton High School in 1934 she went on to Shawano Teacher’s School. From 1936 to 1938 Edna taught in a local one room school. She was united in marriage on May 28, 1938 to John R. Newbury at St. John Lutheran Church, Tigerton. She often worked with John making boxes at the Appleton Paper Products Company which he had started in 1936, until they retired in 1964. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother and grandmother. Edna is preceded in death by her husband on March 30, 2004. Edna currently is a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Appleton. She was active in her younger years at First English Lutheran church teaching Sunday school and serving with the Ladies Aid. Edna also belonged to the Women’s Club and the Lions Club Ladies Auxiliary, Appleton. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, and was an excellent seamstress. She liked baking, canning, and working in her flower and vegetable gardens. She was known for her excellent dinners and especially her full cookie jar in the kitchen. Edna’s other interests included playing cards with neighbors, friends, and her bridge club, and spending time with family.

Survivors include two daughters, Nancy (Don) Luetschwager of West Bend and Sandy (Mike) Yerxa of Greenville. There are 5 grandchildren: Lori Luetschwager, West Bend; Jon (Beth) Luetschwager, Cumming, GA; Tim (Julie Ann) Luetschwager, West Bend; Gregory (Kelly) Yerxa, Boise, ID; and Christian (Courtney) Yerxa, Fuquay Varina, NC. There are eight great-grandchildren: Rachel, Megan, and Michael Luetschwager, Josiah Behmke, Abbey Boehm, Boone and Abraham Yerxa, and Cooper Yerxa. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends. Edna is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John, a brother, Elmer Dilge, and two sisters, Naomi Trettien and Viola Trieglaff.

Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, June 1st at 3:00 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 900 N. Mason St., Appleton. Rev. Judy Deckert will officiate with assistance of Edna’s nephew Rev. Eugene Trieglaff and burial will be at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton on Monday. Friends may call on Sunday from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the church.
