Lavona A. Nelson, age 92, passed away peacefully Friday, July 4, 2014 at Bethany Home.
She was born on January 30, 1922 in Hustisford, WI to the late Gustave and Ida (Pieper) Thurow. On July 25, 1942 she was united in marriage to Maurice Nelson, and he preceded her in death on January 12, 1990. Lavona was a member of Emmaus Lutheran Church. She enjoyed gardening, reading and playing cards as well as volunteering at the Nutrition Center and at the Wisconsin Veterans Home. She owned and operated Farmwell, Inc. from 1947-1971 and Manawa Plastics from 1971-1980; she then worked at Churneys for 12 years.
She will be dearly missed by her son Bryan (Joann Holliday) Nelson of Baileys Harbor and daughter Gayle (Mike) Keller of Weyauwega; three grandchildren: Sam Nelson of Baileys Harbor, Alyssa Keller (Daniel Forslin) of Yuma, AZ and Natalie Keller of Weyauwega; a sister Lilues (Donald) Maas of Watertown and sister-in-law Alice (Harris) Creydt; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Lavona was preceded in death by her brothers, Louie (Frieda) Brakob and Wilbert (Charlotte) Thurow; brothers-in-law Stanley (Lola) Nelson and Ed (Gladys) Nelson and sisters-in-law Doris Schwaefel and Ardelle Suhr.
The funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. noon Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at Emmaus Ev. Lutheran Church, N180 Cty Rd A, Waupaca, with Rev. H. William Jordan officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will take place at a later date in the Symco Cemetery. The Maple Crest Funeral Home of Waupaca assisted the family with arrangements.
