Manawa cyclist killed in crash

Chad M. Konitzer, 29, Manawa, was killed after his bike collided with a pickup truck shortly before 11 a.m. Thursday, July 10, in the town of Union.

According to the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office, the pickup truck was southbound on Flater Road, about one-half mile south of State Highway 161. Konitzer’s bike was traveling southbound in the northhbound lane.

Deputy Timothy Meyers said the truck slowed to pass the bike, but Konitzer made an abrupt right turn into the path of the truck and the driver was unable to avoid a collision.

The cyclist was thrown from his bike and suffered massive head trauma. Attempts to treat Konitzer by emergency medical personnel were unsuccessful and he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office has not released the name of the driver of the pickup truck.
