Elias R. Meyer, 21, New London, is charged with felony theft.
On Feb. 4, a Mukwa woman told the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office that jewelry had been stolen from her home.
She had just discovered it, but suspected the jewelry was stolen during a family Christmas party on Dec. 29, 2013. She said visitors to the party had been placing their coats in her bedroom where she kept her jewelry box.
Nine necklaces worth a total of more than $3,800 were stolen.
Investigators later discovered that the woman’s step-grandson, Meyer, had sold the necklaces to a pawn shop and a jewelry story in Appleton.
When questioned by detectives, Meyer said he sold the necklaces so that he could have money for New Year’s Eve, according to the criminal complaint.
