CLINTONVILLE – The A’s took the first step toward defending their 2013 Grand Championship title by winning their first playoff game.

Jansen Van Daalwyk took the mound for the A’s at W.A. Olen Athletic Field at Don Jirschele Stadium and limited the Gophers to four runs. None of those runs came after the sixth inning. Adam Carroll pitched for the Gophers, but was pulled in the sixth inning as the A’s rallied from a 4-3 deficit to plate six runs. The A’s would later add an insurance run. Ryan Ebert led the A’s offense with three hits, including a double. Aaron Everts, John Dunlavy and Jared Westphal also had two hits for Clintonville. Joe Ejnik led Gresham with two hits. Carroll ended up taking the loss on the mound.

Aug. 10 division finals: No 2 Leopolis at No. 1 Tigerton.

Leopolis 8, Little Falls 7
LEOPOLIS – Ky Schmidt drove in the winning run with a three-run, two-out double in the bottom of the ninth inning. Kyle Hoffman and Aaron Hoffman had three hits for Leopolis, while Drew Radies and Kyle Fischer had three hits for the Loggers. Hunter Hoffman got the win and Jeremy Bauer took the loss.

Tigerton 7, Bowler 1
TIGERTON – Tigerton came up with five unearned runs in the second inning to erase a 1-0 deficit. Winning pitcher Paul Sellner had two hits for the Tigers, while Walker Miller had three for Bowler. Paul Murphy took the loss on the mound.

North Division
Aug. 10 division finals: No 2 Aniwa at No. 1 Elderon.

Elderon 18, Polar 0
ELDERON – Justin Meronk and Mike Lehman had four hits for Elderon in a win over the Loons. Ryan Gust, Brad Knoblock, Rich Resch and John Halstad hit a hit for Polar. Rick Boda got the win and Cole Kuenzli took the loss.

Aniwa 16, Wittenberg 13
ANIWA – Jared Miller homered and had four hits for the Orioles in a win over Wittenberg. Simon Welch led Wittenberg with four hits. Scott Farmer got the win and Keegan Miller took the loss.
