Nemmetz, Burnell

Burnell L. Nemmetz, age 89, a lifelong resident of the Town of Union, went to his heavenly home on Saturday, August 23, 2014, at his residence. 

He was born on April 14, 1925, in the Town of Union, son of the late Albert and Sadie (Kriese) Nemmetz. On June 7, 1947, he was united in marriage to Ruth Tews. They just celebrated their 67th Wedding Anniversary. Burnell and Ruth farmed at the same location with their son Keith for many years up until the present. They were blessed with 3 children. He was a lifelong member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Symco. He was confirmed there on June 7, 1938. He served on various boards over the years at the church. He was a member of the Lutheran Layman League and he and Ruth attended many LLL conventions from California to Canada. Burnell served his community as an assessor in the 1950’s when cows were taxed and every farm had cows; he was also a member and delegate for AMPI. He served 40 years as a fireman for the Town of Union and ASC Committeeman. Burnell enjoyed the many years he played with the church dart ball league. 

He is survived by his wife Ruth; 2 sons: Keith, Manawa; Kneale (Kristy) Nemmetz, Madison; a daughter: Karen (Tim) Fischer, Rockford, Il; grandchildren: Peter (Amy) Nemmetz, Platteville; Lindie Nemmetz, Middleton; Nicole (Mark) Bergdolt, Belvedere, Il; Michael Fischer, Beijing, China; great-grandchildren: Amelia and Eden Nemmetz, and Andrew and Ryan Bergdolt; a brother Allen (Shirley) Nemmetz, Manawa. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers Melvin and Marvin. 

The funeral service for Burnell will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Symco with Rev. Jeffrey Smiles officiating. Entombment will be in Highland Memorial Park in Appleton. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. at the Cline-Hanson-Dahlke Funeral Home in Manawa and on Thursday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorials are preferred for the Lutheran Hour Ministry. The family would like to thank the Theda Care at Home Hospice for their wonderful care and concern of Burnell.
