Season half over for golfers

School hasn’t even started yet and the season is already half over for the Waupaca girls’ golf team.

New coach Kellsey Weller has a small group of experienced and inexperienced golfers to work with this season.

The Comets opened Eastern Valley Conference play Aug. 25 with an EVC meet at De Pere’s Hilly Haven Golf Course and placed seventh with a score of 273.

Markie Ash turned in the low round of the day for the Comets with a 56, followed by Natasha Hales (64), Charlotte Bergsbaken (76) and Alana Radley (77). Fox Valley Lutheran won the meet with a 169. Other team scores were Wrightstown (203), Appleton Xavier (207), Little Chute (213), Freedom (219) and Bonduel (223).

The Comets also placed ninth out of 10 teams Aug. 22 at the Heart of the Valley Invitational at Countryside Golf Course in Kaukauna. Hales and Bergsbaken teamed up for a score of 197 for Waupaca, while Ash and Megan Reach turned in a round of 112.

Waupaca hosted a conference meet Aug. 26 at the Waupaca County Club. Upcoming matches for the Comets include an EVC meet Tuesday, Sept. 2, at Cecil’s Golden Sands Golf Community.
