Waupaca man charged with felony OWI

Daniel S. Erickson, 30, Waupaca, is charged with a fifth drunken driving offense and with operating a vehicle after revocation of his license.

On the afternoon of Saturday, Aug. 23, Iola Police Officer Curt Field was off duty and driving on State Highway 110 toward Weyauwega. As he came to the intersection of State 110 and Butternut Road, Field reported seeing a vehicle roll out into the intersection and stop.

Field parked, exited his car and approached the vehicle. The driver, later identified as Erickson, was slouched over his steering wheel and unresponsive when Field knocked on the window, according to the criminal complaint. The engine was still running.

When Field opened the door, Erickson woke up, took his foot off the brake and the vehicle began moving forward, the complaint says. Field was able to shut down the vehicle.

He contacted the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office, and Deputy Dan Lewinski was dispatched to the scene.

A records check indicated Erickson had four prior drunken driving convictions and his license had been revoked for two years on March 11 after he was convicted of his fourth drunken driving offense in Green Lake County.
