Mykel, Richard James

Richard James Mykel, age 83, of the Town of Waupaca, went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, September 9, 2014. He passed away unexpectedly at his home. 

He was born on June 20, 1931, in Waupaca, son of the late William and Mary (Peterson) Mykel. On December 29, 1951, he was united in marriage to Beverly Vaughan at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waupaca. Richard graduated from Waupaca High School. He proudly served in the National Guard for many years. He worked at Marathon Corporation in Menasha and finally retired from Georgia Pacific after 37 years in 1987. He was a proud Cub Scout leader in Neenah for 21 years. Richard loved his wife and being in the woods. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, playing cards, and woodworking. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Manawa. 

He is survived by: his wife of 62 years, Beverly; children: Richard “Rick” (Terri) Mykel, Bloomington, MN; Jeffery “Jeff” Mykel, Neenah; Robin Mykel and special friend Darla, Neenah; Terry (Kaye) Mykel, Neenah; nine grandchildren: Mandy, Andrea, Paul, Allen, Peter, Amber Tharp, Angela, Karen and Chad; six great-grandchildren: Brady, Mykala, Leland, Madisyn, Owen and Norah; siblings: Janet Rader, Minnesota; William (Laura) Mykel, Waupaca. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and also three sisters: Marjorie, Alice and Marion. 

The funeral service for Richard will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Manawa with Rev. Thomas Theama officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Weyauwega. A visitation for Richard will be held directly at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
