The Trucker varsity boys’ and girls’ cross country teams competed at the Iola T-Bird Invitational on Tuesday, Sept. 2, at Iola Winter Sports Park.

In a field of 138 competitors, senior Allison Johnson finished in fourth place with a time of 20:53.67, while fellow senior Jessica Petruzates took fifth place with a time of 20:55.78.

Sophomore Bethany Klemp took 56th place with a time of 25:21.04, and fellow sophomore Alexis O’Gurke took 78th place with a time of 26:43.64.

On the boys’ side, sophomore Trent Marheine took 10th place out of 150 competitors with a time of 18:33.91. Junior Cole Cotherman took 61st place with a time of 21:50.48, and senior Tim Jerabek took 95th place in a time of 23:24.37.

Coach Jeff Crumbaugh said the team put forth a strong effort.

“We earned three podium spots and I was happy with their performances,” said Crumbaugh. “Ali Johnson and Jessica Petruzates finished 4th and 5th and looked really strong throughout the race. Trent Marheine, a sophomore, had his best race to date, finishing 10th in a very tough field.”
