Fossum, Mabel

Mabel Fossum, Waupaca, Wisconsin, age 95, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 18, 2014 at Iola Living Assistance in Iola, WI. 

She was born July 30, 1919 in Garden City, SD, daughter of Knute P. and Olga J. (Christensen) Nelson. Mabel married James E. Fossum on April 4, 1942 in St. Paul, MN and they shared 61 years of marriage before his passing on May 11, 2003. She retired from the Federal Government and received the Albert Gallatin Award for outstanding services to the Treasury Department of Internal Revenue Service. Mabel was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Waupaca, the Sons of Norway in Appleton, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and of the Eastern Star Chapter 198. Mabel will be deeply missed by all of her loving family and many friends. 

Mabel is survived by: sister, Helen Hoeth of Iola, WI; nieces and nephews: Roberta Willenberg of Madison, AL; Karl Nelson of La Crosse, WI; Carleen (Terry) Leach of Mapleton, IL; Margaret Ann (David) Listug of Stoughton, WI; Dr. Kathleen McGinnis of Stevens Point, WI. She was preceded in death by her parents, Knute and Olga Nelson; her husband, James Fossum; a sister, Mary E. McGinnis; a brother, Clarence A. Nelson, and a nephew, Richard Nelson. 

A Funeral Service will be on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church of Waupaca, WI. Reverend Andy Behrendt will officiate. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.at the church. Burial will be at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Onalaska City Cemetery, located on the corner of 12th Avenue and Main Street, Onalaska, WI 54650. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 2221 North Oak Park Avenue, Chicago, IL 60707 or to Trinity Lutheran Church, 206 East Badger Street, Waupaca, WI 54981. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca is assisting the family with arrangements.
