Comet netters sweep Berlin

Waupaca’s volleyball team competed in the Bud Nelson Invitational in Abbotsford Sept. 27 and also handed Berlin an Eastern Valley Conference defeat Sept. 25.

ABBOTSFORD – The Comets defeated Pittsville 25-17, 25-23; lost to Spencer 19-25, 25-23, 12-15; fell to Stratford 23-25, 19-25; fell to Abbotsford 25-13, 23-25, 9-15; fell to Loyal 24-26, 25-18, 12-15; fell to Colby 18-25, 12-25; and defeated Wisconsin Valley Lutheran 25-6, 25-11.

“The girls started off well, but fell apart after playing Spencer,” coach Chelsea Benitz said. “We missed too many serves and had too many unforced errors to expect wins. We have work to do and will hopefully be ready to come back and play to our potential for Thursday’s conference match against Clintonville.”

WAUPACA – The Comets swept the Indians 25-20, 25-22, 28-26.

“It was nice winning in three games and getting off to a good start quickly,” Benitz said.

Waupaca will return to EVC play at 6:30 tonight (Thursday, Oct. 2) in Clintonville.
