T-Birds Advance in Playoffs

The Iola-Scandinavia varsity football team traveled to Kewaunee on Friday, Oct. 24 to take on Kewaunee Storm, at Kewaunee Memorial Sports Complex.

The T-Birds were on the board first when Holdyn Mast ran the ball into the end zone on a quarterback keeper. Tanner Krusa kicked the extra point giving the T-birds and early 7-0 lead in the game.

Mast later fumbled the ball with 5:00 left in the quarter and Kewaunee took over possession. 

On the second down, Austin Kassner ran the ball in and Lamarco Crawford kicked the extra point for Kewaunee Storm, tieing the game at 7-7.

With time running out in the 1st quarter the Storm found the end zone again, giving them a 14-7 lead over the Thunderbirds.

Kristian Welch opened up the scoring in the second quarter, with Krusa kicking the extra point, tieing the game at 14-14.

Kewaunee answered when Kassner once again found the end zone, putting the Storm up 21-14.

The T-Birds were able to tie the game with 7:22 on the clock in the 3rd quarter when Welch ran the ball in.

With 2:51 left on the clock in the 3rd quarter, Kewaunee fumbled the ball and Adam Cherek recovered for the T-Birds. Welch later ran the ball in for a touchdown, giving the T-Birds a 28-21 lead in the game.

Kewaunee had trouble moving the ball in the 4th quarter and with 2:10 left on the clock, they fumbled again and Logan Inderdahl recovered it for the T-Birds, putting them at mid-field. 

Welch had a nice 34 yard run on the next play.

With time running out, the T-Birds took a knee for the final play of the game.

The T-Birds will travel to Bonduel to take on the Bears for level two of the WIAA playoffs on Friday, October 31 at 7:00pm.
