Comets drop first two games

Waupaca's girls' basketball team opened its season with losses to Ripon and Fox Valley Lutheran

Waupaca’s girls’ basketball team opened its season with Eastern Valley Conference road losses to Ripon and Fox Valley Lutheran.

Ripon handed the Comets a 70-31 loss Nov. 21, while FVL beat Waupaca 77-10 Nov. 18.

Ripon 70, Waupaca 31

RIPON – The Tigers outscored the Comets 20-12 in the first quarter, 15-7 in the second, 23-6 in the third and 12-6 in the fourth.

Victoria Nowak led Waupaca with 19 points, while Marissa Bunge had 23 points for Ripon.

FVL 77, Waupaca 10

APPLETON – The Foxes held the Comets scoreless in the first and fourth quarters.

FVL led 28-0 after one quarter, 47-8 at halftime and 67-10 after three quarters before outscoring the visitors 10-0 in the fourth quarter.

Nowak had eight points for Waupaca, while Bailey Diersen had 16 for the Foxes.

Waupaca hosted Weyauwega-Fremont Nov. 24 and will host Berlin at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2.
