Hoffman Heating and Cooling recently held a Heating for Hunger food drive for the second consecutive year.
Greg Junak, owner of Hoffman Heating and Cooling, said he wanted to help the community.
He said this year’s response has been about the same as last year’s response. More than 700 food items were donated.
“People have been donating on the service calls. People have been coming in and donating food for a good cause,” Junak said.
Those who donated food items received a $5 certificate that they can use towards their next service or filter change.
The New London Community Cupboard picked up the food items from Hoffman Heating and Cooling on Monday, Nov. 24.
“We really appreciate it,” said Kim Ebert, New London Community Cupboard director. “We’ve been serving up to 45 families each week in the food pantry so it really helps us a lot.”
She added that due to heating bills and current economic conditions, the need for items has increased.
“We’ve seen an increase in our need and increase in our families,” she said. “We get three to five new families each week, so we really appreciate the help.”
