Gary J. Herwig, 63, Iola, is charged with felony strangulation and disorderly conduct as acts of domestic abuse and was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia.
Shortly after 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17, a 911 caller reported that her boyfriend was outside the house and had attempted to strangle her.
When Deputy Bryan Strobusch arrived at the home, he encountered a woman who appeared intoxicated, according to the criminal complaint. She reportedly said Herwig had become angry while they were arguing about housework and began choking her.
Strobusch also reported finding marijuana seeds in a pill bottle in the bedroom and a metallic tube with white residue in it.
Herwig told the deputy that the marijuana and paraphernalia belonged to him, the complaint says.
