Indians fall in double OT

Weyauwega-Fremont’s boys’ basketball team fell to Cudahy and Augusta at the Auburndale Holiday Tournament.

The Indians opened the tournament Dec. 29 with a 55-46 loss to Cudahy and dropped a 64-53 contest in double overtime Dec. 30 to Augusta in the tournament’s consolation game.

Cudahy 55, W-F 46

W-F led 10-9 after one quarter and 24-23 at halftime, but the Packers outscored the Indians 18-10 in the third quarter behind four three-pointers from Brandon Stachowiak.

Blake Hudziak’s three-point play with 5:35 to go in the game cut the Packers’ lead to 44-40, but W-F never got any closer the rest of the way.

Dylan Pankow led the Indians with 16 points, while Nick Audi led Cudahy with 16.

Augusta 64, W-F 53 (2 OT)

Augusta outscored the Indians 13-2 in the second overtime.

W-F trailed 11-5 heading into the second quarter, but outscored the Beavers 23-13 over the next eight minutes to take a 28-24 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Augusta outscored the Indians 11-9 in the third and fourth quarters and the teams went into overtime tied at 46-46.

Both teams scored five points in the first overtime, but the Beavers had a 13-2 advantage in the second overtime.

Bryce Akey and Logan Bosquez led the Indians with 14 points, while Alex Hulbert and Pankow also finished in double figures with 10 each. Brandon Kimball led Augusta with 19.

• Auburndale won the tournament with a 71-41 win over Cudahy in the championship game. Pankow made the all-tournament team, along with Audi; Augusta’s Noah Plewa; and Auburndale’s Matt Nikolay and Alex Marth.

W-F will resume Central Wisconsin 8 Conference play Friday, Jan. 9, at Bonduel. The Indians will also host Stevens Point Pacelli Tuesday, Jan. 13. Tipoff for both games is set for 7:30 p.m.
