MCNC to add assisted living rooms

Changes are on the horizon for the Manawa Community Nursing Center (MCNC).

The changes include transforming half of the building to a Community Based Residential Facility (CBRF).

“We are very excited about it,” said MCNC Administrator Joy Miller, BSN, RN.

According to Miller, the state has approved MCNC’s request to convert half of its facility to a CBRF.

“We are finishing the final touches,” she said. “We are very close.”

After over two years of planning, the facility is awaiting the final approval from the state supervisor of assisted living, Miller said.

The renovation has been completed, so as soon as the approval is given, MCNC will begin to accept CBRF residents.

“We have applied for the highest level CBRF, so we will be able to accommodate those people with more physical needs,” Miller said.

The CBRF designation accommodates residents that require different levels of assisted living.

A total of 10 rooms will be available for private or semi-private dwelling. The CBRF rooms have private bathrooms, with a kitchen unit available.

The other half of the facility, about 15 rooms, will continue to serve residents who need nursing care.

Applications for CBRF residents will be accepted after MCNC receives its final approval. The level of care will be determined according to each applicant’s needs.

According to Miller, MCNC currently has the best base price for nursing care within a 20-mile radius.

“We are a small, homelike environment, and we give great care here,” she said.

The facility’s goal is to be “a positive partner of the health care system in its community.”

Miller noted that MCNC will be one of the few assisted living facilities in the area that can provide 24-hour nursing care, because the nursing home staff is under the same roof.

To accommodate the CBRF, the facility plans to add more staff, including a social events coordinator.

To help decorate the newly remodeled facility, Miller announced that the MCNC staff would prefer to display artwork from local artists.
