Bulldogs lose to Thunder

A low-scoring, physical contest between the New London girls’ basketball team and Seymour Thunder saw the visiting team escape with a 36-29 win on Thursday, Jan. 8.

The New London offense suffered a slow start and the home team trailed 21-15 at halftime.

The third quarter was more of the same for the Bulldogs as they couldn’t get the offense on track. Both teams played scrappy ball on defense, as players continually dove for loose balls. Several jump balls were called and several players were whistled for fouls during a flurry of intense exchanges.

New London narrowed the deficit to two points as the score sat at 23-21 in favor of Seymour with 1:23 remaining in the third quarter. Despite the rally attempt, Seymour went on to take a 25-21 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Bulldogs continued to battle, narrowing the score to 27-24 with just over five minutes remaining in the game. Seymour’s advantage was still three points with the score 29-26 with 4:15 left to play, but the Thunder outscored the Bulldogs 7-3 over the remainder of the game to seal the win.
