Missed free throws added up to missed opportunities for the Iola-Scandinavia girls’ basketball team.
The Thunderbirds missed 15 of 19 attempts Jan. 16 in a 53-40 Central Wisconsin 8 Conference loss to Weyauwega-Fremont.
The T-Birds took a 14-13 lead into the second quarter, but the Indians out-scored the visitors 16-8 over the next eight minutes to take a 29-22 halftime lead.
I-S cut the lead to six once in the third quarter, but still trailed 41-31 heading into the final period, but W-F outscored the T-Birds 12-9 down the stretch and led by as many as 15 points late in the game.
Karissa Akey led the Indians with 16 points, while Alyssa Goode hit four three-pointers to finish with 15 points and Kiley Akey came off of the bench to add 12. The T-Birds’ Brooke Phillips led all scorers with 18.
The teams will meet again Thursday, Feb. 19, in Iola.
