Watercolors focus of artist’s work

Sue Atkinson will be featured at the next Meet the Artist Night, scheduled from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, at the Waupaca Community Arts Center.

The watercolor artist specializes in portraits done from photos, and she will be at the event to discuss her portraits and answer questions.

Refreshments will be served.

Atkinson is a Wisconsin native who has always lived in the state.

Currently based out of Neenah, her fascination with art began when she was about 3 years old and able to draw with a crayon.

Atkinson’s mother brought her love of art to life, encouraging Atkinson during her growing years and into adulthood.

During high school, Atkinson received a strong art education. She credits her teachers for sharing their enthusiasm about the creation of art with her.

Primarily self taught, Atkinson admits to studying under other successful artists on occasion.

She believes her greatest teacher is the observation of nature and her surroundings.

Atkinson also learned a great deal from reading and studying the work of other artists.

She likes to paint whatever inspires her at the time, whether it is people, flowers, animals or an idea represented by imagery.

An exhibit of her work will be at the arts center through mid-April.

The Waupaca Community Arts Center is located at 200 N. Main St., in downtown Waupaca.
