Waupaca Area blanks Medford

It didn’t take long for the Waupaca Area girls’ hockey team to put up some big numbers in its latest game.

The team scored six goals in the first period and improved to 17-1 on the season Jan. 26 with a 12-0 Great Northern Conference win over Medford at the Simek Recreation Center.

Mandy Tomlinson had a hat trick with three goals – all in the first period – and added a pair of assists, while Markie Ash scored twice and finished with five assists. Avery Simonson and Jamie Slattery chipped in with two goals each, while Kylie Hiddemen, McKenna Schultz and Kat Otter scored once and Brianne Huettner finished with three assists.

Waupaca Area outshot the Raiders 44-13 and goalie Cassie Rasmussen had 13 saves in the shutout.

Waupaca Area will head to Eagle River Friday, Jan. 30, for a rematch with Northland Pines before hosting Marshfield at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 2, at the Waupaca Ice & Expo Center.
