Police find rifle in felon’s room

Waupaca police found a rifle in the hotel room of a man who was convicted multiple times for burglary and gun-related offenses in Oklahoma.

Mickey J. Leiter, 41, Waupaca, is charged with felon in possession of a firearm.

Shortly after 6 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, the manager of the Village Inn called Waupaca police and reported that the desk clerk had seen a rifle in Leiter’s room.

According to the criminal complaint, the clerk reported that Leiter had been acting strangely in that he said he believed “a big black male” and two other men were out to get him.

When Lt. Geoff Johnson arrived at the hotel, he found a .22-caliber rifle in Leiter’s room. Leiter told Johnson he was a convicted felon and should have known better, the complaint says.
