Lauten, Gary D.

Gary D. Lauten, age 56, of the Town of Lanark, died unexpectedly at his home on Wed., January 7, 2015. 

Gary was born on March 21, 1958 in Oshkosh, WI to Donald and Viola (Paulsen) Lautenschlager. He was baptized April 13, 1958 at St. Peter’s Church in Oshkosh. His last name was changed to Lauten in 1961. After spending his early childhood in Oshkosh and Kimberly, Gary’s family relocated to Waupaca in the late 60s. He remained a resident of the Waupaca area for most of his life. Gary graduated from Waupaca High School in 1976. He attended Fox Valley Technical College in Appleton from 1976-1978, where he took classes in Data Processing and Automotive Technology. In 1997 he received his Associate Degree as a Physical Therapist Assistant from NWTC. Gary held many different jobs during his life in Wisconsin and various states he traveled to, including Ding’s Dock on the Chain-O-Lakes from 1975-1985, eight years with the U.S. Post Office in Wausau, WI and Walt Disney World making many friends along the way. Most recently, his employer was Goodwill Industries in Waupaca. Gary was a quiet, reserved person who worked very hard and would always lend a helping hand when needed. He enjoyed the outdoors and participated in many endurance biking events throughout the U.S. over the years. He was also a loyal fan of the Milwaukee Bucks, Green Bay Packers, and Chicago Cubs. 

Gary is survived by his half-sisters, Christine Allen, Norfolk, VA and Gloria Culver, Hackensack, MN and his half-brother, David Culver, Virginia Beach, VA. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Donald Lautenschlager and Viola Bowe. A Memorial Gathering of family and friends will be on Saturday, February 14 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca. Burial will be at a later date in Badger Cemetery, Town of Lanark.
