Clintonville handed Waupaca a 66-52 defeat Feb. 12 in a matchup of Eastern Valley Conference boys’ basketball teams.
The Truckers used a 10-0 run to break an early 5-5 tie and outscored the Comets 20-9 in the first quarter. Waupaca trailed by as many as 20 points in the second quarter and went into the locker room at halftime down 35-22.
Waupaca never got any closer than 10 points in the second half, as the Truckers outscored the home team 11-10 in the third quarter before both teams scored 20 points over the final eight minutes.
Free throws turned out to make a big difference in the game, as Waupaca hit four of seven and the Truckers made 20 of 22.
Brando Vasquez led the Comets with a season-high 30 points, while Tyler Petermann and Nathan Krueger led Clintonville with 22 and 19 points, respectively. Nick Hogen also finished in double figures for the Truckers with 15.
