Joyce Ella (Danielson) Hanson, Plover, Wisconsin, age 79, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, February 15, 2015 at her home in Plover, WI.
She was born July 23, 1935 in Waupaca, WI, daughter of Herman “Tiny” and Ella (Grunwald) Danielson. On September 11, 1954 Joyce married John D. Hanson at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waupaca. She was a Den Mother for Cub Scouts and active in 4-H when the kids were young. She was a league bowler for many years. Joyce was involved with the Plover VFW Auxiliary Post 10262. She was the organizer of the Plover patriotic band concerts and bingo caller for the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King and for Whispering Pines in Plover. In 2012, Joyce was the recipient of the Jefferson Award for her volunteerism with nursing homes and other organizations. She portrayed Rhonda the Rabbit for the B.A.B.E.S program through the Lincoln Center for elementary students in Stevens Point and Plover for several years. She was a lover of music and enjoyed playing the piano and accordion every chance she got, and also played several other musical instruments, all by ear. Joyce loved dressing up in costumes for Halloween and various holidays. She was a great cook and loved spending time with her family and all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren whenever she got the chance. Joyce was a collector of teapots with more than 400 in her collection. She loved both flower and vegetable gardening. Joyce will be deeply missed by all of her loving family and many friends.
Joyce is survived by: husband, John D. Hanson of Plover, WI; children: David (Peggy) Hanson of Stevens Point, WI; Thomas (Sharon) Hanson of Franklin, WI; Holly (Chris) Morgan of Plover, WI; grandchildren: Nicholas, Austin, and Amanda Hanson; William Hanson; Dustin, Dylan, and Dayne Karcheski; great-grandchildren, Grey and Molly Hanson; sister, Sharon (Charles) Martin of Appleton, WI; and brother, Steven (Carolyn) Danielson of Waupaca, WI. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Herman “Tiny” and Ella Danielson; one sister, Carol Schreiner; and two infant brothers, Dale and Kenneth Danielson.
A Funeral Service will be on Friday, February 20, 2015 at 12:00 noon at Divine Word Lutheran Church in Plover, WI. Pastor Scott Wolfram will officiate. A visitation will be held on Thursday evening, Feb. 19, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca with a VFW Ladies Auxiliary Service at 4:00 p.m. A visitation will also be held on Friday morning from 11:00 – 12:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will be at the Central WI Veterans Memorial Cemetery in King, WI. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca is assisting the family with arrangements.
