Pacelli cruises over Indians

Weyauwega-Fremont’s boys’ basketball team dropped a pair of recent Central Wisconsin 8 Conference games to Stevens Point Pacelli and Bonduel.

Pacelli held the Indians to 16 points over the final three quarters Feb. 13 in a 78-34 win, while Bonduel came from behind to hand W-F a 51-50 home loss Feb. 10.

Both teams scored 18 points in the first quarter, but the Cardinals outscored the Indians 60-16 the rest of the way.

Pacelli led 41-24 at halftime and 59-28 after three quarters.

Dylan Pankow and Bryce Akey led the Indians with 12 and eight points, respectively, while James Gollon led Pacelli with 37.

Bonduel 51, W-F 50

W-F trailed for most of the game and didn’t take its first lead until Akey’s basket with 1:02 remaining in the game gave the Indians a 50-49 advantage.

Bonduel led 10-6 after one quarter, 26-20 at halftime and 44-37 after three quarters.

Logan Bosquez hit a three-pointer that cut Bonduel’s lead to 47-45 and Pankow added a three-point play that made it 49-48 with 2:31 lead.

Akey’s basket gave the Indians their first lead, but it didn’t last long, as Bonduel’s Connor Rosin gave the Bears the lead back with 20 seconds to go.

Bonduel missed a free throw with nine seconds remaining and the Indians had a chance for a game-winning shot, but Akey was whistled for an offensive foul.

Pankow, Bosquez and Alex Hulbert led the Indians with 14, 13 and 11 points, respectively. Peyton Czarapata led Bonduel with 20 points.

W-F will host Iola-Scandinavia at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20.
