Avoid thin ice on Mirror Lake

City of Waupaca crews will begin the operation of Mirror Lake’s aerator on the morning of Friday, Feb. 27.

The water aerator is located in the middle of the lake and provides needed oxygen to the fish and other aquatic life.

The city received reports that the fish in Mirror Lake are struggling, due to low remaining oxygen levels in the lake, warranting the operation of the aerator.

By operating the aerator now, an area of open water will be created in the ice on the lake, creating a hazardous situation.

It will be unsafe to go near the open water and thin ice on the lake, so people should stay back a safe distance, where the ice is thick enough to support them.

Those who have questions or concerns may contact Parks and Recreation Director Aaron Jenson at 715-258-4435.
