W-F boys fall in opener

Menasha St. Mary Central ended the season for the Weyauwega-Fremont boys’ basketball team March 3 with a 57-51 win over the Indians in a WIAA Division 4 regional.

Dylan Pankow had the hot hand early for W-F, as he scored eight of the Indians’ 10 points in the first quarter.

The Zephyrs took a 13-10 lead into the second quarter and led 23-19 at halftime.

Both teams scored 20 points in the third quarter. W-F scored the first 10 points of the quarter to take a 29-23 lead, but the Zephyrs answered with an 11-0 run to go up 39-32.

Pankow’s basket with 2:22 remaining in the game cut St. Mary Central’s lead to 51-50, but the Zephyrs outscored the Indians 6-1 the rest of the way.

Pankow led all scorers with 21 points, while Blake Hudziak also finished in double figures for the Indians with 12. Connor Schodorf led the Zephyrs with 17 points.

St. Mary Central’s season ended March 6 with a 68-60 loss to Lourdes Academy in a regional semifinal.

The Indians finished their season at 7-16.
