Monument one step closer to reality

American Legion receives $2,000 donation

March 12, 2015

Premier Community Bank has donated $2,000 to the monument fund for Legion Park.

The Sheveland-Taylor American Legion Post 14 of Iola is currently raising funds for a new memorial honoring 20 military personnel from Iola, Scandinavia and Ogdensburg who lost their lives while fighting for our freedom during five different wars.

“We’re proud to be a part of the community and are honored to be a participant in a grass roots project that honors our veterans,” said Tom Pamperin, president and CEO of Premier Community Bank.

The new Gold Star Recipients Memorial will feature a bronze sculpture called the ‘Fallen Soldier,’ which was designed after the ceremonial arrangement that soldiers do themselves in the battlefield when one of their own loses their life.

The bronze sculpture of the ‘Fallen Soldier’ will be placed on a three-foot high octagon base which will feature eight bronze plaques honoring those that lost their lives. The memorial honors 22 gold star names from the Civil War to present day.

The project includes a reconstructed sidewalk that will allow for better access for disabled.

Premier Community Bank’s donation of $2,000 helps the Legion Post towards its construction fundraising goal of $22,000.

Anyone interested in helping can send donations to: Lyle Mork, c/o Sheveland-Taylor American Legion Post 14, 295 Blaine St., Iola, WI 54945.

For more information, call Mork at 715-347-1328.
