Waupaca youth hockey tournament play

The Waupaca Area Youth Hockey Association sent three teams to state tournaments over weekend and all three returned home with trophies.

The Bantams took the consolation championship in Waupun and the Squirt A and U14 girls’ team placed third.

The Squirt A team opened their tournament in Minocqua March 14 with a 2-1 win over Blackhawk/Baldwin. Blaise Andrich scored the first goal off of an assist from Jayce Koshollek, while Max Gusmer scored the second goal with an assist from Sawyer Bohm.

The team fell to Waupun 12-0, but came back March 15 with a 2-1 win over Rhinelander in the third-place game. Max Gusmer scored both goals for Waupaca one with 2:16 left in the game to take the lead.

Hagen Rasmussen was in goal for all three games.
