I-S students raise funds for veterans

The Iola-Scandinavia National Honor Society has raised $1.246 for the Old Glory Honor Flight.

This is already above the NHS’s original fundraising goal of $1,000, and is enough to assure sending two veterans to view the memorials in Washington, D.C.

The NHS expresses appreciation to all of the community members that have helped create success for its Old Glory Honor Flight fundraiser.

So far the group has hosted events in the community and reached out to Iola and Scandinavia community members as well. The group held a 50-50 raffle and airplane throwing contest at two I-S High School varsity basketball games.

Proceeds from these events combined with donations from generous community members have helped the group bypass the first goal. In fact, the group has increased the goal to $1,500, enough to send three veterans.

The National Honor Society hopes that a few more community donations will help to reach the new goal. For anyone interested in donating to this cause, there are many ways to help.

The group has donation buckets placed at Depot Street Station and Crystal Cafe. Donations can also be dropped off at the Iola-Scandinavia High School office, or email [email protected].

The group’s fundraiser will end on March 27.
