Traffic stop leads to heroin bust

Jeremy M. Walber, 32, Plover, was charged in Waupaca County Circuit Court with possession of narcotics.

On Feb. 4, Wisconsin State Trooper Alex Trofin observed a vehicle with passengers who were not wearing their seat belts on West Fulton Street in Waupaca. He made a traffic stop near Harrison Street.

The driver, identified as Walber, appeared nervous, according to the criminal complaint, and a passenger, identified as Angela Zavala, appeared to push something under the driver’s seat with her foot.

When Trofin asked her what she was attempting to conceal, Zavala responded, “Nothing.”

That same day, Portage County prosecutors had filed felony drug charges against Zavala and Walber.

Trofin called for assistance and another trooper with a canine arrived. The dog alerted to the presence of drugs.

Walber then gave Trofin a syringe from his pocket and Trofin found an aluminum wrapper with heroin in it, the complaint says.
