Teen charged with battery to officers

Trenton A. Swortz, 18, Waupaca, was charged with two counts of battery to an officer, two counts of felony delivery of marijuana, drug trafficking and resisting an officer.

Shortly after 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 24, Detective Sgt. Brian Hoelzel, with the Waupaca Police Department, and Special Agent Ryan Dobbs, with the Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation, went to Swortz’s home on the 700 block of Ware Street to arrest him.

Swortz reportedly sold marijuana to a police informant on two separate occasions in August and September 2014.

When Hoelzel told him he was under arrest, Swortz, who was outside at the time, said he needed to go back into his home and put on a sweatshirt. Hoelzel said he needed to accompany Swortz.

According to the criminal complaint, Swortz asked the officers if they had a search warrant. When Hoelzel said they did not, Swortz opened the door to go inside.

Hoelzel then grabbed Swortz by the arm, and as he attempted to pull away from Hoelzel, Swortz pulled the officer in through the door, police say.

Swortz then pushed Hoelzel into the wall, injuring his hand during the scuffle, according to the criminal complaint. Three other officers arrived and with their help, Swortz was escorted to the ground, handcuffed and taken into custody.

Both Hoelzel and Dobbs reported that they sustained injuries during the arrest.
