Comet girls third, boys fifth in Wautoma

Waupaca’s girls’ and boys’ track teams placed third and fifth, respectively, April 2 at the Wautoma Relays.

Waupaca’s Avrey Simonson won the girls’ long jump with a distance of 15 feet, 2 1/2 inches, while the girls’ 800-meter relay team of Simonson, Tatiana Sotka, Alisa Blank and Michelle Petkovsek placed first in 1:53.96.

Also placing for the Comet girls were the 1,600-meter relay team of Sotka, Blank, Petkovsek and Mya Snyder, second; Simonson, third in the triple jump; the 1,600-meter sprint medley team, third; the 300-meter relay team, third; the 4,800-meter relay team of Petkovsek, Christina Rasmussen and Kristin Petkovsek, third; Fontasia Robinson, fourth in the shot put; Erin Montgomery, fifth in the discus; and the 400-meter relay team of Cassie Rasmussen, Montgomery, Lexi Tripp and Kassy Daniels, seventh.

Jake Piencikowski and Christian Overman turned in the highest finishes for the boys by placing second in the high and triple jump, respectively.

Travis Heschke and Brandon Anderson took third and fourth in the triple jump, respectively. Blake Orr was fourth in the shot put, Heschke placed seventh in the long jump and Derrick Rotta finished eighth in the discus.

Also placing for the boys were the 1,600 sprint medley and 300 relay teams, second; the shuttle hurdle team, third; the 1,600 and 4,800 relay teams, fourth; the 400 and 800 relay teams, fifth; and the 3,200 relay team, seventh.

Team scores for the girls were Berlin (112), Winneconne (82), Waupaca (56), Omro (53), Markesan (37), Wautoma (19) and Laconia (14).

Team scores for the boys were Winneconne (102), Omro (78), Berlin (63), Wautoma (62), Waupaca (55), Laconia (26) and Markesan (8).

The Comet boys will return to Wautoma Thursday, April 9, for Wautoma Invitational, while the girls will head to Wausau West Invitational.

Both teams will open Eastern Valley Conference competition at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, at a triangular in Clintonville with Appleton Xavier and Clintonville.
