Kerneen, Eileen

Eileen S. Kerneen, age 90, New London, passed away on Tuesday, April 7, 2015.

She was born on August 12, 1924 in Green Bay, daughter of the late Ludwig and Clara (Malueg) Diem. Eileen was united in marriage to LeRoy Kerneen on June 9, 1945 in Tigerton; he preceded her in death in 1998. After Eileen married LeRoy, they started a family and worked on their farm together. Eileen was as much out in the fields and in the barn as she was in the house, cooking and cleaning. She enjoyed it all. There were times when she took part-time jobs to get a little extra cash to buy material to make her daughters dresses. Eileen did all sorts of craft projects like cross stitching, needlepoint, sewing and crocheting. There were many daughters, granddaughters, friends and other family members that reaped the rewards of her talents. She also liked to read and do crossword puzzles, and word searches. Eileen became a member of Trinity Church where she joined the Rebecca Circle, and also helped the quilters spread their love with their handmade quilts. She also took charge for many years of the “cradle roll” for the new babies of the church.

Eileen is survived by: her daughters, Linda (Tom Sr.) Mitchell, Waupaca; Patricia (Larry) Natzke, New London; sons, John (Sharon) Kerneen, Weyauwega; Michael (Billie) Kerneen, Marion and Charles (Cheryl) Kerneen, Ogdensburg; sisters, Carol Lehman, Tigerton; Dorothy Schwartz, Gresham; sister-in-law, Brenda Diem and Rita Hohn, (she was an honorary sister), Tigerton. She is further survived by 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild on the way, also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides her parents and husband, Eileen is preceded in death by brothers: Clarence, Harvey, David, Leslie, Lester, Martin and sisters, Edna and Marcella Diem.

Funeral services for Eileen will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, New London with Rev. Bil Sutlief officiating. Burial will be in the New Maple Creek Cemetery.
