Heroin overdose leads to arrests

A heroin overdose in Waupaca has resulted in the arrest of three people.

At 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, Waupaca police responded to a medical emergency at a home on the 100 block of North State Street.

It was reported that a 21-year-old woman had accidentally overdosed on heroin and was unconscious and barely breathing.

The woman was revived and transported to Riverside Medical Center for treatment.

Waupaca police continued to investigate the incident, then executed a search warrant shortly before 11:30 p.m. Tuesday at a home two doors down from the overdose on North State Street. They seized 2.5 grams of heroin, cell phones, cash and drug paraphernalia, according to a Waupaca Police Chief Tim Goke.

As a result of the investigation, three people were arrested and are currently being held in Waupaca County jail.

Brittany Durrant, 27, faces possible charges of reckless endangerment, possession of heroin, delivery of heroin and maintaining a drug house.

Clayton Vomberg, 22, faces charges of delivery of heroin.

Kayla Smith, 21, was jailed on charges of child neglect and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Agents from the Department of Justice and the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the investigation.
