Behm wins art award

Mason Behm, a kindergarten student at Manawa Elementary, was recently recognized by the Manawa School Board for receiving an art award.

Behm was named Artist of the Week on Artsonia, an international web-based art gallery.

According to his teacher Lori Wilson, Artsonia has the world’s largest children’s art museum, with over 32 million pieces displayed.

“Since joining the gallery in 2009, Manawa Elementary School has had over 22,000 pieces displayed,” Wilson said.

Each week, 12 student artworks are chosen in each of four age categories and placed on the home page of the gallery.

Behm’s project, a paper sculpture of a clown, was chosen for the pre-kindergarten through third grade category.

“Voting is then open for one week,” Wilson said. “At the end of the week, the students with the most votes in each category are named Artist of the Week.”

“He won by more than double the votes,” Wilson said.

Behm received a certificate of recognition from the board.

Manawa Elementary School will host its annual Art Show from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 23.

The theme for this year’s show is “Selfies – A Reflection of the Artist Within.”

“Amazing student artwork displayed, family art activity, show related game, face painting, refreshments and awards,” Wilson said.
