Elizabeth “Betty” R. Montgomery, King, Wisconsin, formerly of Appleton, Wisconsin, age 86, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, WI.
She was born May 27, 1928 in Green Bay, WI, daughter of Merrill E. and Ruth L. (Pynch) Newton. Betty served in the U.S. Army from February 13, 1959 until she was honorably discharged on April 27, 1961. On March 4, 1961, she married James F. Montgomery in Aiken, SC and together they shared 43 years of marriage before his passing on August 2, 2004. Betty will be deeply missed by all of her loving family and many friends.
Betty is survived by: son, James (Anne) Montgomery of Lowville, NY; daughter, Merrillyn (David) Tester of Amelia, OH; grandchildren: James I. (Andrea Schultz) Montgomery of Athens, GA; Elizabeth L. Montgomery of Lowville, NY; Ami M. (Michael) Alford of Milford, OH; Ty D. Tester of Cincinnati, OH; and a brother, Robert Newton of Los Angeles, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Merrill and Ruth Newton; her husband, James F. Montgomery; an infant grandson, David Andrew Montgomery; and an infant granddaughter, Crystel Marie Tester.
A Memorial Service will be on Friday, April 17, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Main Chapel at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, WI. Chaplain Rich Engle will officiate. A visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the Main Chapel on Friday. Burial will be at the Central WI Veterans Memorial Cemetery in King following the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in the name of Elizabeth R. Montgomery. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca is assisting the family with arrangements.
