A matchup of two teams expected to compete for a Central Wisconsin 8 Conference softball championship turned out to be not of a matchup after all.
Weyauwega-Fremont took advantage of seven Iola-Scandinavia errors April 13 in a 7-1 win over the Thunderbirds.
The T-Birds opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first inning, as Brianne Huettner drove in Jayden Podgorny, but that would be the only time I-S would light up the scoreboard. The T-Birds had three hits in the inning, but managed only one more the rest of the way.
The score remained 1-0 until the Indians scored three times in the fourth and four times in the fifth.
Kiley Akey struck out 12 batters to get the win on the mound, while Kendall Johnson took the loss. She gave up four hits, didn’t walk a batter and finished with four strikeouts.
